Chapter Chair

Dr. Ricardo Gomez is a distinguished Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, specializing in Pediatric Endocrinology. He serves as Division Head of Endocrinology for the LSU Department of Pediatrics and is the Service Line Chief of Endocrinology at Children’s Hospital New Orleans.

Dr. Gomez earned his medical degree from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana School of Medicine in Bogotá, Colombia in 1990. He completed pediatrics training at the Pediatric University Hospital “Lorencita Villegas de Santos” at the University of El Rosario, where he served as Chief Resident from 1994 to 1995. He later completed a Pediatrics Residency and a Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship at LSU Health Sciences Center.

Since 2007, Dr. Gomez has served as a Staff Attending in Pediatric Endocrinology at Children’s Hospital of New Orleans, dedicating 18–21 weeks per year to patient care. He has trained 22 fellows and has served as Program Director for the Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship since 2012.

His academic contributions include more than 30 peer-reviewed publications and over 20 invited presentations. He has been the Pediatric Endocrine Society (PES) Liaison to the Latin American Society of Pediatric Endocrinology (SLEP) on the International Relations Committee since 2014. His leadership, commitment to clinical excellence, and dedication to the development of future specialists have made him a respected figure in pediatric endocrinology nationally and internationally.

Nereida Parada, MD, FCCP, FAAAAI, cMBM

Chapter Chair Elect

Dr. Nereida Alicia Parada graduated Cum Laude from Princeton University and received her medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. After her Internal Medicine residency in the Hospitals of the University of Pittsburgh, she received fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care, followed by Allergy and Immunology fellowship training while at Boston University School of Medicine. She came to Tulane School of Medicine in 2000 and is an Associate Professor of Medicine. Dr Parada is the Director of the Tulane Asthma Center, Clinical Lead for LSU Health Care Effectiveness for Asthma and COPD, Pulmonary Lead of the federally qualified St Thomas Community Health Center in New Orleans.

 

She is a Fellow of the College of Chest Physicians and the American Academy of Asthma Allergy and Immunology and is certified in Mind Body Medicine. She has been Chair Elect of the Gulf Coast Chapter of NHMA since 2023. She is the Immediate Past National Chair of NHMA Chapters. Her efforts, with other NHMA leadership, led to two new chapters—Colorado and Puerto Rico. She is listed in America's Top Doctors, Exceptional Women in Medicine, and Top Hispanic Latino Doctors America's Most Honored Doctors Top 1%. She has received National Institutes of Health and American Lung Association grants to study asthma and inflammation and is the author of several papers and book chapters.
