Chapter LeadershipSerguei Castaneda, MD Chapter Chair Dr. Serguei Castaneda is a dual board-certified physician in Radiation Oncology and Internal Medicine. Originally from Colombia, he earned his medical degree from the Universidad de Antioquia and completed advanced research training at Harvard University, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston University, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and the University of Pennsylvania.
Luis Isea Mercado, MD, FACP Chapter Chair Elect Dr. Luis Isea is an Internal Medicine physician serving his community as a Primary Care Physician at AdventHealth Orlando, with a focus on Men’s Health and Cancer Survivorship. Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, he completed medical school there before immigrating to the U.S. in 2015 to pursue his Internal Medicine residency at AdventHealth Orlando. Chapter MissionOur mission is to empower and elevate Hispanic physicians and other health care professionals in Florida by building a strong professional network, providing mentorship and guidance to Latino medical students, International medical graduates, Early career physicians and health care professionals. We are committed to improving the health of Hispanic and underserved populations by raising awareness of health care disparities and conditions that disproportionately affect our communities. Through education, advocacy and social media outreach, we aim to support Hispanic health care professionals and patients, fostering a sense of belonging and helping our community thrive. The NHMA Florida Chapter is proud to spotlight Dr. Luis Isea Mercado, recently awarded the 2025 “Internist of the Year” by the American College of Physicians Florida Chapter. This honor recognizes outstanding leadership and dedication to the practice of Internal Medicine. Dr. Isea has demonstrated a deep commitment to advancing the profession in Florida through advocacy, leadership, mentorship and community engagement, with a strong focus on inclusion and diversity within the physician workforce. He serves in key leadership roles within the ACP Florida Chapter and is a member of the ACP National Council of Early Career Physicians, continuing to champion opportunities for trainees, IMGs and early-career physicians. We congratulate Dr. Isea on this well-deserved recognition and celebrate his ongoing impact on the Internal Medicine community.
