The Chronic Disease and Minorities Congressional briefing in February 2018 was a success! NHMA presented the recommendations from our Summits of 2017 to develop access, prevention, and medical education policy strategies to improve the health of cardiovascular patients in our communities. Congressional Briefing: Patient-Centered Mental Health Research & Minorities

MENTAL HEALTH RESEARCH & MINORITIES  CONGRESSIONAL BRIEFING RECAP

The Mental Health Research and Minorities Briefing occurred on June 13, 2018, and NHMA president testified along with mental health researchers supported by PCORI. NHMA focus was on the importance of Hispanic participation in research, researchers as well as participants to better create knowledge of patient-centered strategies that can be used to improve the health of our population. Key issues brought up included the need for support for PCORI to continue health equity-focused research, need for focus on research of immigrant issues, especially the separated families along the US-Mexico border; children and adults behavioral health to increase awareness and lessen stigma, and the issue of diversity among mental health workforce and including them in team-based education and health care.
