The NHMA Council of Young Physicians (CYP) welcomes NHMA physician members who graduated less than five years ago from U.S Residency/Fellowship Training.

Mission: CYP is a platform for NHMA young physicians to meet and network in order to advance as future leaders in medicine and to advocate for the needs of our Latino community.

2022 Young Physician of the Year Award: Twelve outstanding young physicians (less than 5 years out of U.S. residency/fellowship training), two from each region will receive the NHMA Young Physician of the Year Award for constant advancement toward a career goal, extraordinary commitment to serving the Hispanic community, and participation in NHMA as a member or future member - to be presented at our 26th Annual Conference in Chicago, IL from April 27-30, 2023

Grants/Career Development
2023 NIDDK/National Hispanic Medical Association’s Travel AwardThe National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) in conjunction with the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) provides travel awards to participate in the NIDDK Workshop on Career Development in Academic Medicine. Participants are senior residents, fellows, and junior faculty within 3 years of completion of the fellowship who are interested in pursuing careers in biomedical research and/or academic medicine. Participants may also attend the NHMA 26th Annual Hispanic Health Conference.

Research Showcase – Poster/Presentations

2023 NHMA Conference – Hispanic Health Research or Service Learning Poster Presentation session.  We will present awards to the most outstanding poster presentation among students, residents, and physicians/faculty. Posters will be judged according to the following criteria: Value to the profession, scientific and/or informational content, appropriate design, and graphical presentation.

NHMA Leadership Fellowship: This is a 9-month program (2 virtual 90 minute sessions per month) to promote leadership for members of NHMA through executive training and development, especially in public health with a focus on COVID-19.  The selection criteria include mid-career U.S.-licensed physician (5 years or more out of training), executive leadership potential at the local, regional, and national level– as evidenced by work experience and additional community activities. Announcements will come up in summer.
