NHMA Cultural Competence Project

The NHMA Cultural Competence Project seeks to develop recommendations for medical education curriculum on cultural competence and Hispanics. NHMA convened 2 plenary sessions at our annual conferences in 2001 and 2002 and a panel of experts on April 6, 2002 in Washington, DC to assess the current knowledge base on cultural competence training for medical education especially related to Hispanic cultural competence. The Office of Minority Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services supported this project.

As a result of this project, the Hispanic Centers of Excellence, designated by the Health Resources and Services Administration, DHHS have agreed to link curriculum to the NHMA website. In addition, NHMA has developed a bibliography of key articles, books on cultural competence related to Hispanic health. This information will be on the website soon.
